Brookesia Nana

We fell in love with this little guy as soon as we saw him.  Meet Brookesia Nana.  Also known as B.Nana or Nano Chameleon.  This reptile is potentially the world’s smallest reptile and is the size of a sunflower seed.
Brookesia Nana is a species of chameleon and was recently discovered in Madagascar. In 2021, it is said to be the world’s smallest reptile measuring only 2 centimeters. So small that they can fit on the tip of your finger. They can grow up to an inch. While other chameleons change color and blend in with its surroundings, Brookesia Nana do not. They are a brown color. There are male and female species which were discovered by scientists.  The females are larger so they can can carry eggs. The males are smaller but are very well endowed.  Their manhood are quite large and is almost 20% its body size. It is likely that the species is endangered.

World’s Smallest Reptile

According to CTVnews, before 2012, biologists didn’t know this reptile existed.  But the researchers who discovered are still stumped as to why it stays so small when most vertebrates grow in size as they mature.
Researchers say this nano chameleon may hold the title of the world’s smallest reptile. Its nearest competitor is a creature called  Brookesia micra, an itty bitty chameleon species that was discovered in 2012. There are 30 species that are recognized as being valid according to Wikipedia.
